DRY MOUTH RELIEF FOR SJOGREN'S SYNDROME

Having sand in your eyes and cotton in your mouth are some of the descriptions of symptoms describing Sjogren'ssyndrome. Sjogren's is an autoimmune disorder in which moisture-producing glands that produce tears and saliva are destroyed or damaged by the person's own immune system, resulting in dry mouth (xerostomia) and dry eyes as well as a host of other symptoms such as fatigue, joint pain, dysfunctions of the kidney, gastrointestinal system, blood vessels, lungs, liver, pancreas and the central nervous system.

Dryness of the mouth results in not only difficulty in swallowing and eating but also important for speaking since saliva provides that necessary lubrication. Lack of saliva also results in oral health problems such as increase in cavities, bleeding or inflamed gums (gingivitis) as well as periodontitis (gum inflammation associated with loss of gum tissue, resulting in loss of teeth). Keeping the gums healthy is also vital for systemic health since inflamed, bleeding gums results in bacteria and bacterial toxins invading the blood stream which, in turn, causes diseases such as coronary artery disease and heart attacks.

There are prescription products which stimulate the glands which produce moisture such as cevimeline and pilocarpine and can be prescribed by your physician. Effectiveness depends upon the level of remaining function in the various glands. Understanding of their side effects are important. Sugar-free gum and candy help to some extent. The most common remedies include lubricating mouth rinses which offer temporary relief. The difficulty is the inconvenience of carrying around a mouth rinse and finding a place to use it. Lubricating sprays is another alternative.

Those with Sjogren's syndrome, after trying many other products, find that Salese offers them the greatest level of relief. Other products, such as sprays and mouth rinses, offer temporary relief. They are also less practical since they are inconvenient to carry around all day.Salese is a long lasting small, flat lozenge, less than a half inch in diameter, continuously releases a natural ingredient which provide the feeling of moisture and lubrication in the mouth. The lozenge lasts hours in the mouth of a typical xerostomia subject, providing the saliva feeling relief throughout that time. For some users of Salese, 2 to 3 lozenges last the entire day. The lozenge is small enough to be parked anywhere in the mouth and does not interfere with speaking.

Even though dry mouth relief is the main reason for using Salese, the lozenge provides key solutions for better oral health. Cavities are a significant problem for persons with Sjogren's syndrome. Cavities are caused by acids produced from bacteria. A person with Sjogren's syndrome does not have the saliva to wash away bacteria and the acids produced by bacteria. Salese continuously releases an ingredient to neutralize acids and another ingredient, xylitol, to inhibit bacterial growth in the mouth.Lack of saliva also contributes to bad breath (halitosis). Salese fights this problem in two ways - reduce production of VSC (Volatile Sulfur Compounds - the main culprit in bad breath) by reducing the amount of bacteria in the mouth and by using zinc to capture VSC.

Although many persons with Sjogren's syndrome enjoy peppermint Salese, some people with prefer lemon which is very mild or perhaps wintergreen which has natural anti-inflammatory properties. The product is readily available on Nuvorainc.com
